Em is 18 months!

My darling little diva will be TWO years old in less than 6 months.  I realize that's still a long ways away - but wasn't she just born??  Who am I kidding, this has been the longest 18 months of my life.  Girlfriend and I had a rough start, but I tell you what - the joy she brings is unspeakable...which means I might as well stop typing.  Seriously though - Steven and I find ourselves laughing at her daily, completely amazed by all that she is, all that she can do, and all that she can say.

Let's start with her stats:  She weighs ounces away from 23 pounds.  Her exact height escapes me.  She is (still) wearing 18mo clothes, a size 4 diaper, and size 3 shoes.  (she LOVES wearing her shoes!)

There are so many things I love about this kid and her silly personality that it may be (1) impossible to list them all (2) a REALLY long post.

Words:
She can talk so so much.  Her doctor says she is quite advanced in her speech.  She understands every instruction we give her, even though she doesnt always choose to obey them (shes a rebel).  She can respond to most things and we can understand what she needs and wants.  She can name a lot of stuff and even speak in shattered sentences.  Today, Annie was running up the sidewalk and Emery bolts behind her yelling, "STOP! STOP! ANNIE! C'BACK! C'BACK ANNIE!"  (which is what we yell at Emery when she tries to run up the street, on a daily basis).  Annie turned around to come back to our house (Emery runs as fast as she can in the opposite direction) and Emery said, "YAY! GOO GIRL ANNIE!"  Our favorite sentence of hers is "oh no what hapeeennnddd?" She says things like, "where did it go? Oh Daddy Wheh ah yooou?  Der it is!"  Anytime someone walks through the door she said, "I baaaaack!" (because that's what i yell when i walk through the door after I've been away).  Really she can say so much and repeat almost anything you ask of her.

Songs:
She LOVES to sing.  Annie does too now (though she didnt at 18 months) - so maybe that's where E gets it.  She can sing shattered lyrics to:
-ABCs
-This little light of mine:  "let it shiiiiiiiine, let it shiiiiiiiiine"
-Twinkle Twinkle: "teenkle teekle wittah staaaaah, howiwonalkdflkdjfak aaaareeee, upppabuh da wo so hiiiiiigh....."
-Row your boat:" row row row your boat geenneee streaaaaam, meymeymeymey a dream"
-Rain Rain Go Away: "rain rain go away unadenanuda daay"
-BINGO: "e i n e o"

Fun:
She is a silly girl.  She will walk across the room and randomly fall down (on purpose), look at us and say, "I'm ok? I'm Ok?"  So we will ask her, "Em are you ok?!"  and she'll jump up and yell "YEAAH!!!" This is also how you know if she's hurt or not.  If she trips and says, "Ok?Ok?" she just wants you to ask if she's ok so that she can say YES.  If she is hurt, she will say "ow, hurt!" and show us what exactly got hurt.

She loves being chased and will scream like the little girl she is when you get her!  She'll yell, "uh get you get you!" as she runs away!

She likes hide and seek too.  If someone mentions anything about hiding she will immediately start counting: "1, 2, 3, 4 eddy not COOOMEEE!"  (YES, she can count to 4! told you she was smart!)

Bubbles are, of course, her favorite.

Food:
She loves snacks and will tell you when she needs one "un snack? snack mama!"  Emery do you want a snack? "YEAAAAH!!!!"

If she's really hungry (you know, because she refused the lunch or dinner I made her.  She's SO finicky when it comes to food.  If its not a carb, its out of the question) she will ask for some lunch.  She'll say, "lunch? lunch?"  Em, do you want a snack? "No! Lunch!"

She can also ask for a drink if she needs one.

Sleep:
She used to be impossible in the area of sleep, but we have found the light at the end of the tunnel (minus this past week as we settled back in from vacation).  She does have regular naptimes and bedtime - but when she's tired, she will say, "go night night? night night. night night. night night...." and on and on until you pick up her and take her to bed.  She is no longer allowed to walk around with her passy or her pillow (which are her favorite things!  We tried to just take the passy and let her have her pillow, but with one comes the other, so...)   When she wakes up from her naps, she can have them through her diaper change and then they go back in the bed until next sleep time.  She's finally ok with this.  When she's ready for bed, I can either rock her - or (thanks to her daddy) just lay her in bed and rub her hair a few times.  She'll grab her passy and snuggle up on her pillow.  It's a unicorn pillow pet and she LOVES its tail.  She rubs it on her little face until she falls asleep.

Today she asked for a nap, but it wasnt quite time yet - so we told her to wait until we got lunch ready - then after lunch she could go to bed.  She got really quiet so we walked in her room.  She had reached through her bed rails to get her passy and she had her unicorn's tail through the rails, rubbing it on her face.  She couldnt get the giant pillow out - so she was snuggled up, standing up, against her bed with its tail. I laughed so hard and just put that kid to bed.   I do love that she will allow me to rock her to sleep on the nights where I'm able.  I love that and treasure that time with her, though most of the time its short since her sister is sitting on the couch watching tv, waiting for me to come back.  I soak it up on the nights Steven is home - because she wont be a baby forever and there's nothing better than rocking a baby to sleep.
-----------------------

I LOVE this age of babyhood so much and it is SO bittersweet for me.  She's so fun, she's easier, we can understand each other, and she can (kind of) play with her big sister, but she's also not a baby anymore.  I'm thankful because she was a very difficult baby - but she's still MY baby.  And my baby is turning toddler on me you guys.  I can't handle it.  Im not ready to give up those chubby cheeks, chunky legs, and that little dimply butt.  There's something so fantastic about holding a chubby baby when she's sleepy - she's so cuddly and I could kiss her for days.  I'll miss that the most when she grows up!!  But for now: I'll keep soaking it up and enjoying her.  She's a blast and I'm SO glad God gave her to me!!!
