First Accident
To most of you, this may seem like a weird thing to be blogging about - but remember: this blog is more for me than it is you ;) hehe!
We had a REALLY hard time getting Annie to start using the potty, if you remember. However, once she made up her mind she has done it 100% with full force never looking back. There were two instances when she first started that she wet her bed at naptime. I credit this bed wetting to the fact that our days were full and she was exhausted and too far gone to wake up. Though these were accidents, it was really still a part of her training, so I dont reallllly count them :) Aside from that, she wore panties from day one without any other problems. (Except that other time the mall was renovating their restrooms and we had to literally run to the other end of the shopping center at which point she had already pooped in her panties.....but...that was another story.)
SO... maybe this isnt her first accident, but -
Tonight she was sitting in the chair watching a show on her ipad. I was on the couch editing photos. She jumps up, "I need to go pee pee." Me: "Ok, go ahead." "Come on mom!." "You know how to pee pee, go ahead I'm right behind you. Don't wait on me."
Note: she always uses the potty all on her own and usually just calls for us to help her wipe
I am getting up from the couch when I hear her SCREAMING "MAAAMAAAA!!!!! MAAAAAMAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!" (which wakes her sister up that I had to fight for quite a while to get to sleep). It only took me a second since I was in route, but by the sound of her I thought she had fallen in the toilet, hurt herself, saw a huge spider, something!!! But there she is, standing in the bathroom floor (whew) - in a huge puddle of urine.... as her pee is still running down her leg. She is crying uncontrollably, freaking out, screaming, etc.... So I pull her soaking wet bottoms down, stick her on the toilet to finish (I have no idea what in the world she had been drinking...so. much. pee.) and try to get her to calm down (we have a sleeping baby one room over kid!!)....
A: "Ooooh nooo Mama! I made a big big mess!!"
M: "It's ok baby, calm down, just breath, calm down...."
A: "but my pee pee is everywhere!"
M: "I know, you waited too long to come potty..."
A: "Yeah and I got pee pee all over the floor" {{insert more crying here }}
M: "It's no big deal, we can clean it up (as I grab a towel)... see...all better.... it was just an accident. Its ok, really."
A: "Im so sorry mama!! My accident!"
M: "It's ok honey, see: it's all cleaned up, I can wash all of this stuff, really its ok! When you feel like you have to pee pee you need to go immediately and not wait so long next time."
A: "Yeah, because it's really yuck!"
So I get her wiped down with a wash cloth, wipe up the mess off the floor, and then some dry bottoms (which thankfully she didnt complain about since they didnt match her Paw Patrol top.) It scared, shocked, and embarrassed her to the point that I think she was nervous to go to bed tonight. She kept thinking about it and cried/came out of her room several times.
She's quite the tender little thing - and I can't help but wonder what future embarrassments or devastations will do to her sweet little spirit. Hopefully she will always know that she can find some comfort in her mamas words and hugs :)
