The End is Near

Today I am 36 weeks pregnant!! That means 4 weeks away from my due date!
1. I'm SO ready for this baby to be here
2. HOLY SMOKES... we will have a second child in a month or less.

I am seeing the doctor on a weekly basis now. We did the group B strep test last week (bleeeh) and it came back negative (yay).  I went today and after waiting for THREE hours to be seen (Doc got stuck at the hospital), he spent a whopping 5 minutes measuring my belly and poking around to make sure Emery is in the right position (and she is indeed, head down).  After he did this he looks at me and says, "Now, you do realize you need to have this baby before your due date, right?"

Background:
For starters:  our doctor is brutally honest, and I love that about him (it also makes him a bit intimidating).  But when we first met he told me that he would be leaving town for a week...the day after I was due.  Ordinarily that wouldn't be an issue, but here's why it is for me:

1. I'm a vbac patient.  That means I'm going to attempt a vaginal birth after having had a c-section - and very few doctors will do this.  Why? (here's where his honesty comes in) Its inconvenient.  If a normal girl walks into labor and delivery and is about to give birth, a nurse can deliver the baby if the doctor cant get there in time.  For me: a doctor has to be there just in case my uterus ruptures since it has been cut open before (risk of rupture is only 1%)  So... if a doc has been on call allllll night and has been doing babies all day - and I walk in and am progressing nicely, they have to wait around instead of being able to go home, out to lunch, etc... Obviously there are more reasons than that, but that's one of the biggest ones.

2. Most doctors in his practice will do vbacs.  Except one.  And two will do them, they just do them begrudgingly (meaning it may not be a pleasant experience).  SO...if I go into labor when my doctor goes out of town, I will be delivered by whoever happens to be on call that day. If it's the one guy who will not perform vbacs, guess what? Auto c-section.  No choice.  So ultimately I really don't want to get any of those three doctors, but.... since it's an "on call situation" - you can't choose and there's no way to know - or convince baby to stay in a little longer until we can get a different doctor

SO:  the best thing for me...is to have my doctor deliver me.  Early on we talked about the possibility of induction, providing my cervix is starting to efface and I'm starting to dilate.  If shop is absolutely closed, he will not induce me because (1) it'll be a miserable labor (2) it may not be successful and (3) he doesnt want to force my body to do something its just not ready to do for sake of convenience (I told you his honesty is awesome.)   NOT to mention that they really don't like to induce women who are trying for a vbac (not sure why...).  In fact, there are some hospitals out there that will absolutely NOT induce a vbac patient - it's against their policy.

**Back to present**
So after he told me that I needed to deliver a little early, I told him that I'm ready whenever he's ready... that I'm ok for this baby to get evicted at any point.  He said, "well, we're about a week too early, and you can't have the baby this Friday or Saturday. so...." (I assume he's taking a trip)

He usually doesn't start checking for dilation until 38 weeks because sometimes it can stir up labor, but....he's going to start checking me next week (week 37) to hopefully get stuff moving.  That's not saying it WILL (otherwise women everywhere would have their babies at 37-38 weeks)... but it may help.  Because he really doesnt want to induce me (due to my previous csection), we want labor to just happen.  That's not saying he wont induce me, he just really doesnt want to have to.  BUT he also needs/wants to be the one to deliver me. So.... a lot of cards at play here.

Steven is out of state right now and will be gone until December 19th, so we definitely want Emery to wait until he gets home so that he can finish his training course, then anytime after that is just fine by me!! Maybe by week 38 (the monday after Steven returns) we can do everything in our power to get labor started and to get miss Emery out of there and born in the year 2014 (which would be beneficial in lots of ways with insurance and taxes ;)

So prayers that she'd come before January 5th (but not until December 20th)... that's not asking too much...right :/
