Hee Ho Here We Go

My sweet baby daughter has recently developed a love for Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  It started with the songs "Yo Ho, Let's go!!" and "Hee Ho here we go together as a teaaaaammm" - she thinks its so funny..  But now, she just loves him and she cheers for him when he gets gold deblooms.

She got a teeny tiny scratch on her arm & picked and picked at it until it became a crater of a sore.  To keep her from picking at it, we put a band aid on it. She cried and cried and picked and picked - she HATED that band aid.  She kept asking for me to take it off... but after I drew a smiley face on it, she accepted it with extreme hesitation. (It was a waterproof one so even her best attempts at taking it off failed).  To help her accept the band aids, Steven and I took her to Target and let her choose between Jake band aids and hello kitty band aids.  Jake won.  That night we put one on her arm and again, she was hesitant and asked for us to take it off, but after a few minutes (realizing it had Jake on it), she was happy.

The next evening when we took it off for her bath, she BEGGED me to put one back on.  She would hardly even let me get her dressed until she had Jake back on her arm.  And this has been true for the past few days.  Today, i took her band aid off - her arm is healed enough to where she can't pick it into a sore, so i told her we didn't need Jake anymore.  She looked at me like I was crazy, but she seemed relatively ok with it.  As I was changing her diaper she picked up the Neosporin that was laying on her table and asked me to put medicine on her arm, so I did.  At the next diaper change, she needed more medicine and she started begging for Jake.  I explained to her again that she didnt need Jake anymore... and she cried.  I put her down and she went to the hall closet and somehow...got the band aids out herself.  After several minutes of her insisting that I put one on her - and even picking one out, I gave in and put a band aid on her arm.

She then proceeded to carry this box of band aids around with her. All. Day. Long.  She laid it down for a nap & laid in the floor with "Jake."  She pushed him (him = the box of band aids) around in her shopping cart.  She brought him to the table to eat, where she fed him carrots and milk and watermelon.  After dinner we took her outside and she took Jake for a walk.  She hugged him and told him it was ok.  She let him go down the slide with her - and then by himself.  She threw him in her playhouse so he could play.  And I even had to rock him and her together.  How I managed to sneak him back into the cupboard during her bath I'll never know....

This wasn't some toy that she toted around. It was a box. of band aids. So now,  I'm currently online looking for a stuffed Jake of some form... and some Jake stickers....otherwise we may never get that band aid off of her arm...
