Annie is 16 Months!
It's been a while since I've posted and there's so much to catch you up on. However, I'll start with the center of my little world: sweet baby Annie!
I cannot even begin to tell you how much that little girl has changed in the last two months! Physically, developmentally, and most of all: her sweet little personality.
Physically:
She had her 15 month well check at the beginning of the month and she weighed in at 21lbs, which is what she weighed three months ago! That should tell you that she is a very, very busy girl. We've taught her how to go up and down stairs, and so that has become one of her favorite activities. We've tried to show her how to sit when she goes down, but she insists on walking them like a grown up... so, that's what she does. She isn't running yet, but she can MOVE very very quickly. I go to Jazzercise almost everyday and she LOVES going out on the dance floor and running around just dancing and squatting her little heart out.
She was 28" tall at her last appointment, which puts her in the 10th percentile. What can I say, she gets it from her mama. I think she has grown a little since then because she is starting to fill out her pants a little better. She's still wearing a size 3 shoe - which is what she wore late summer. Teeny little feet.
She has all but one of her teeth!! She had three on bottom and four on top - and then every. single. tooth. in her mouth came in at the same time (except the one... and her 2yr molars). Thank the Lord above for Amber Teething Necklaces. There were a few days that she complained, but overall - teething has been a cakewalk for us! She's starting to figure out what to do with those chompers and she loves to crunch her little crackers with them!
Developmentally:
The girl is soaking in everything. Sometimes I find myself cracking up at the things she picks up on. She babbles ALL the time and has learned so many words! Most of you probably couldn't tell what some of those words are, but for those of us who are around her all the time - it's very clear. Even if her words aren't enunciated perfectly, she knows and we know exactly what she's saying. We taught her a little sign language as a baby and she can now verbally say everything we taught her, so she doesn't really sign much anymore. "Bye bye, Hi, More, Thank you, All Done." She knows all of the parts of her face and some parts of her body (she can say and identify them... and she can point them out on me). She knows lots of animal sounds: cow, horse, dog, cat, donkey, monkey, owl, bird, lion, bee, duck. She can identify lots of things and call them by name: clock, banana, shoes, socks, all of the animals previously mentioned..... Gosh, there's so much .... Uh, she recently started counting to five with prompts. Five is her favorite number to shout out! She's learning how to use her spoon and fork. She is finally starting to touch sticky/slimy things. (Bananas are her favorite). And she listens and responds so well to verbal commands. She understands pretty much everything we tell her to do. If I ask her to go and get a book for me - she'll do it. If I ask her where her blanket is, she will search the house with me until she finds it.
Oh. And she's got the iPhone figured out. She can text. and knows what to do when Siri is activated. She likes to Facetime with Pops... but then gets confused when I am on a voice call and his face isnt on the screen. Texting is her favorite thing ever. She likes to call people, but isn't a fan when I'm on the phone myself.
Personality:
She's such a sweet, happy, happy girl!!
We've always seen this in Annie, but she is also a tender little thing. She is tender, with a strong will. Her feelings get hurt easily, which makes discipline fairly easy (if there's a such thing as easy discipline). When she cries it melts me into a little puddle... which is surprising. I had me pegged differently when i was pregnant with her. Anyways. She has a strong will and it definitely shows when she can't do something that she really wants to do, or have something that she really wants to have. Lately she has wanted me to hold her anytime I am doing something. She's just so curious! It's so challenging because I tell Steven all the time that I never want to be that mom who tells her kid, "I'm sorry I can't hold you right now. I'm too busy." When I'm doing dishes or cooking - she wants to see. She wants to be hands on and see and experience everything I'm doing. Most of the time i stick some chairs together and let her help me with dishes, but she hasnt quite grasped the concept that if you step off the chair, you fall and get hurt. Steven is building her a special stool for helping Mama. I try to let her do and see as much as I can - but sometimes it's just not safe. Unfortunately she doesnt understand that...
One of THE cutest things that she is doing right now is kissing. Perhaps Steven and i have done well in showing her affection - because anytime she comes across something that she likes or enjoys, or something that excites her - she has to kiss it. The best things get hugs. Hugs are reserved for Mama, Daddy, Quack Quack (her blanket) and Ellie (her passy). Everything else that she likes gets a kiss. Everything from the paintings on her walls, her books, the Hello Kitty backpacks at Walmart, the toilet seat (?!?!?), the door mat on our porch (it has owls on it), her piggy bank... And she loves giving Pops kisses when we Facetime! She also says "awww" anytime she kisses something. The kid is so cute i can hardly stand it sometimes.
She's really into "kiy kiys" right now (kitties). Anytime she sees one... she starts blowing kisses if she can't physically put her lips on it. My mom got me some Zebra striped Hello Kitty slipper socks when I delivered and Annie is obsessed with the kitty on them. I can't wear them anymore because of this. I had to wash them - and let her have one to carry around with her to hug and kiss. She doesnt care for the show though.
Her favorite movie is Horton Hears a Who. We have it in our DVD player in the car - and though she doesnt get to watch it all that much, she LOVES it. They do have that movie at Jazzercise and so that's the first thing she goes to when we get there... she has to carry around the movie case & if she gets fussy while she's there, Horton cheers her up instantly.
She also likes the show "harry the bunny." When he signs off at the end of his show he says "bye bye harry the bunny. bye bye funny bunny" and its super cute hearing her try to repeat it.
Her favorite book right now is "Ba Ba Black Sheep." It has that, Little Miss Muffet, Jack and Jill, and Hey Diddle Diddle in it. She LOOOOOOOVES Ba Ba Black Sheep and the absolute CUTEST thing she says right now is that. Ba ba black sheep. One day I'll record it before she can say it really well because it's so funny. She basically blows a raspberry after saying sheep and it makes us laugh every time we hear it. She also loves Little miss muffet. It may have something to do with the fact that we go waaaay overboard when we read, "AND ALONG CAME A SPIDER AND HE SAT DOWN BESIDE HER!!!"
Her favorite songs: Itsy Bitsy Spider and If You're Happy and You Know it (she can do the motions)
Ok, so I'll end the post here... because it's so long - but it's so hard to believe that just a year ago I had a little girl who could barely hold out for tummy time and now... gosh. Time does fly doesnt it. We are, however, REALLY enjoying this phase of life. She's not a little baby, but there are still baby features about her. And she's old enough to do some things, but she's not a little girl yet. Maybe we could freeze time for a while longer?
