We spent Christmas this year with Steven's family since it tied into our Anniversary week (see previous post). Not to mention Cassie, Ryan, and their new baby Kinslee came too and I just couldn't resist an opportunity to get my hands on that tiny girl. (For the record: it did NOT give me baby fever...)
As a kid, when Christmas morning came, either mom or dad, or one of the older siblings would distribute gifts and on the count of three everyone would dig into their presents as fast as they could!! We couldnt wait to see what we had gotten! There would be paper flying all over the place as all six of us dug in! The first time I experienced Christmas with Steven's family, i thought that it was so weird how they handled the opening of gifts. After 10 years I have really come to appreciate the way that they do things. Instead of everyone opening everything at once, they all take turns opening one gift at a time. I really love this because you get to see and enjoy what everyone is getting!
We celebrated on Sunday the 22nd and since Annie was getting tired, we let her open all of her presents first so that we wouldn't 'lose" her in the process. This was her reaction to opening gifts:
| I mentioned that she was tired & was not ok with having to sit down from playing |
She then discovered that there were fun things inside of those packages. This is a watch from Aunt Cassie and Uncle Ryan (she is really into clocks) |
| Once she had her "clock"... she lost interest in the rest of her gifts... |
| She got 2 Bum Genius 4.0 diapers from Mom and Dad! |
| Pants are overrated... |
| She got a little magnet mirror and a ring pop (which we left at Grannys :) |
| A really big clock from Granny and Grandpa! |
She didn't care too much about unwrapping the presents, so Steven did all of that for her. Once she was finished, we each took turns opening one gift at a time until everyone was finished! Steven and I aren't huge on buying a ton of gifts for each other or for our girl. (though this Christmas ended up being a big one for all of us). We want to instill in her that it is not all about presents, but about the gift that Jesus is to us. And while in the future we only plan to get her a few gifts each Christmas, we are so so thankful for her incredibly loving grandparents who shower her with their love... in the form of hugs and in the form of actual gifts.
Steven's biggest gift was a Ruger 9mm and mine was, of course, my new vehicle! Annie scored lots of great things from her mama and daddy, granny and grandpa, nanny and pop, Aunt Cassie and Uncle Ryan, Uncle Marcus and Aunt Meredith, Uncle Nick, our neighbor, and Ira and Melanie
ristmas for all of us. Next year we plan to do better and not spend quite as much money or have quite as many gifts)
