Annie is 10 Months Old!
This month has brought quite a bit of change in the Alexander house! I'll blog about this a little later, but we spent three weeks travelling and while we were away, Annie went from fairly stationary to full out mobile.
What She's Doing:
-Wearing 12 month clothes
-Annie can now put her body in any position she wants it: sitting to standing (with aid), to laying down to sitting to crawling to... you name it.
-CRAWLING!! And she's pretty darn good at it
-Pulling up on everything in sight - this will make a mama go gray.
-Standing up in her bed
-She will take steps if you hold her hands
-Clapping
-Mimicking Sounds
-Throwing Tantrums when she can't have something she wants
-Learning what "no" means. We haven't necessarily "baby proofed" our house. We have outlet covers and a gate to protect her from falling down the stairs, and plan to install a few cabinet latches, but other than that she is free to roam and explore our home. After all, it is hers too. However, there are some areas that we are teaching her are "off limits." One of which is the entertainment center. Our TV sits on a table of sorts that has doors and drawers. When she goes near it we simply tell her "No No Annie!" and she will let out a little whine and turn the other way. So far she is quite the obedient child and we are praying she keeps this temperament (yeah right). It's so fun watching her understand what we're saying. When she nears the trash can I say "no Annie, find something else to do," at which point she'll pout... and go do something else. We've hardly had to divert her and so far haven't had to smack any hands!
We haven't added too many new things to her diet, though I probably should. We've tried a few finger foods and she isn't a fan unless it's cheerios or other little baby cereals of that form. This coming month I plan to try to sneak more texture into her little mouth. Hopefully she wont scream and cry when I try (which is what she currently does). Drama Queen ;)
Her Personality:
-Sweetest. Baby. Ever. I probably say that a million times a day.
-Now that she is mobile she is even happier than what she has always been! She is much less frustrated and can get to what she wants.
-She smiles so much
-She LOVES to play peek-a-boo and "get you." She could seriously do it all day. When we hide behind things she will lean over to try to find us or even crawl after us. When she finds us, its nothing but laughs
-Her laugh is very contagious
Lets see, what else:
-she is getting her third tooth! It poked through several days ago but it continues to grow. In fact, last night she woke with a fever and has had a snotty nose all day :/ Poor girl. She now has three on the bottom... and none on top.
-We may very well be out of the stranger danger phase (whew!)
-When we lay her down for a nap, unless she's completely zonked, she likes to play in her bed... crawl, sit up... stand up... for a few minutes until she ultimately lays down and goes to sleep. Sometimes this is very frustrating while other times its just fine, depending on how badly she protests!
-She is starting to get cuddly again!! For the last couple of months it has been impossible to rock her, which is good and bad. At night she always allows me to rock her, but during the day she would have none of it. Here lately she has allowed me to do this before her naptimes. I love it and cherish every minute of it since I never know when she'll revert back to her old ways ;)
Me:
I am LOVING this phase in babyhood. It has truly been my favorite stage so far. I love how interactive she is and watching her learn and grow. I am realizing more and more though that her days of babyhood are fleeting. She will be a year old in two short months. I find myself taking lots and lots of mental pictures (Ok, who am I kidding.. physical pictures too) of her. Of her chubby little cheeks and her chubby baby legs. Those tiny (or.. not so tiny) baby feet and those soft little baby fingers. I realize that my sweet baby daughter will soon no longer be a baby and it is such a bittersweet realization. I look forward to the coming months as she phases into toddlerhood, but I am also know that I'll miss when my baby is no longer a baby. Unfortunately we cannot alter time, so for now I will continue to savor these precious baby months. I love this girl so insanely much...
And in the greatest news of all: I will be finished pumping in a little over a week!! (Finished= weaning). I have saved enough milk to supply her through January! I plan to do a post about this...and I will be sure to include a photo of our freezer.. which is absolutely ridiculous. I am overly excited about the freedom that this will bring to our lives.
