Bathroom Makeover
We live in a "cookie cutter" house, which means that its the same as the other houses on our street and even the street beside us. This also means "builder grade" everything. Not to mention this used to be a rental, so things in here are even cheaper... with the exception of the flooring... we actually have some of the nicest floors in the neighborhood. Weird.
Anyways, I don't really mind the builder grade oak cabinetry in our house.. it's ok, but its not "cool." It's just what it is: ok. So, I decided to give our bathroom a bit of a face lift. I've been wanting to paint the cabinets darker, but the thought of sanding everything down made me sick at my stomach.
I found some stuff called "liquid sandpaper" thanks to Pinterest, and so I went to Lowe's to ask about it. The lady told me that it is really toxic and that you have to have the area well ventilated and keep the house clear and open for an hour or two. Um... I have a 5 month old, so that simply isnt possible. I started to walk away with my head low... when she introduced me to something magical. Bonding Primer. This primer is made for glossy surfaces. In fact, it'll even work on tile. I thought I heard a heavenly chorus when she told me about this. (Which is even EASIER than what the liquid sandpaper would have been). So for $20, I bought a gallon of Valspar bonding primer. And then I picked my paint... which is a dark brown of some shade in Valspar Ultra ($30). The color isnt quite what I had in my head, but its the closest I could find.. It has more of a "grey" hue to it than I wanted, but I love it. (And Steven loves it too!)
And so in a day I painted my bathroom vanity and the towel bars. And now our bathroom looks mod. The good news is: I barely used any of the paint I purchased and will be able to do the bathroom downstairs.. and if I'm brave enough, THE KITCHEN!
