We have a "doctor!"
We decided against the birthing center a few weeks ago because they were out of network with our insurance and this far along in pregnancy... it just seemed too complicated to deal with. We found Midwest Midwifery - a midwife practice that operates out of a hospital about 25 minutes from our house. The best news: they were in network with our insurance!
Yesterday we were on our way home from Springfield to head to see the Midwest Midwives, associated with Research Hospital in KC. On our way, we got a call from the birthing center saying that they were going to apply for an in-network exception with my insurance company, since they do not cover any birthing center in North Missouri. They are so confident in their application, that they've decided (and signed a contract with us) to go ahead and take me on as a patient as "in-network." What this means for us: If our insurance rejects their application, the center will take the hit. We will pay the in-network rate regardless!!!
We cancelled the appointment with the Midwest Midwives and had an appointment with the birthing center yesterday. The appointment went great and everything with Annie looks perfect! She had a heart rate of 153bpm. We also got to get an ultrasound of her! I told my midwife that I wanted a gender check.. and she measured my belly to be a bit bigger than it should be - so that was the reasoning she gave for me needing one (see.. she's great already!). Annie is still a girl!!! And she measured out just fine! She's spot on where she needs to be and she weighs a whopping 1lb 7oz! Steven got to be there this time, which was super special for both of us! He hasn't gotten to see an ultrasound since she was 9 weeks, so it was a joy watching him watch our baby girl!
So now... here's the best news of all:
Since we are using the birthing center - we have a choice of how we want to do the birth of our baby girl. AND.. we're having her AT HOME!! That's right! We get to have a natural home birth! I'm insanely nervous about having our baby ... but I'm really excited that we get to do this where we are most comfortable - at home!!
