Drug Study - Pre Dose
For those of you out there who are wondering what it's like to participate in a drug study... today is your lucky day because I am going to tell you :)
As I previously mentioned, this study is for two drugs - one to help lower cholesterol and another to help treat HIV.
I checked into the clinic at 4:30 yesterday. There is a lot of down time and I am thankful for a laptop :) A guy actually brought his 64" tv and his Xbox for entertainment. (He has played non stop since we got here - minus sleeping). So, here's what I've done so far:
-4:30: blood draw/pregnancy test/ urine sample
-Vitals: temperature, blood pressure, breathalizer
-We did a lot of sitting and were able to eat at 6:30. We had a turkey/bacon sandwich, pretzels, and fruit. The sandwich was pretty large. We were required to eat 75% of our food. I made a happy plate.
-After dinner we sat around some more until we were allowed to go to bed at 9pm. I've connected with a few girls here - so we ended up chatting until 10:30.
SLEEP.
-Woke up at 5:30am
-6:00am - no water until 10:30
-We got an IV catheter (which I have never had before). This has been my least favorite part. it's weird having a needle sticking in your arm all day.
It's 8:02am and I've had my vitals checked and pre-dosing blood drawn. (through the course of the study we get our blood drawn 38 times. Woa.
AND now I'm just sitting here - waiting to be drugged :) This is a fasting study - so no food until noon. Or water until 10:30. I'm hungry and parched and my IV thing stings. But if this is the worst that happens to me, I'll be ok ;)
