Family Heritage
"Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him" - Psalm 127:3
Two weekends ago I was able to photograph my friend Natashia's family!
Her sister Heather wanted family portraits for her family of 4... and then I did the BIG Thomas family... which consisted of... a lot... of people.
I have to brag on this family and how incredible they are. I don't know much about them, but that's the great part - I don't need to know much about them to know the most important thing about them. (Hang in there, this will make sense!)
The Bible repeatedly talks about the importance of family heritage... about how parents are to bring their children up to love and fear the Lord.
Deuteronomy 11:18-19 says: Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
While photographing them I was able to see generation after generation of what it looks like when you obey this command. What it looks like when a mother and father raise their children to love Jesus. It produces little disciples who grow in grace and truth and then produce more little disciples who grow in grace and truth.... who produce more.... (I think you get the pattern). It's absolutely beautiful to see how Jesus has been passed on through each generation.
It's so encouraging to see parents who have raised their children to love God - and then to see the fruit that it produces. This really challenges me, as one who looks forward to being a mother one day. The importance of godly virtue and how my relationship with the Lord will effect my children and generations to come. Because as great as this is... there is a flip side. The Bible warns against leading your family astray and contains countless examples of generational sin. Oh Lord may you guard my life and my family and help me and my husband to train our children to love and fear you!!
