Dominican Update:
As we get ready to head to the Dominican Republic in TWO MONTHS, we have started step 2: RAISING MONEY!! We mailed out our support letters 2 Fridays ago to friends and family members all over the place in hopes that they will partner with us!! Out of this letter, there are two ways to partner:
1. PRAY! We can NOT do this thing on our own! We need the power of the Holy Spirit to work and move! We need God to provide the means necessary for us to go - as well as strength and patience as we are in the Dominican. We need HIM to start working in the hearts of the nationals so that they can receive the words that He would have us or the Batey Pastors speak to them... We just need faithful partners to cover us, our church, and the Nationals in prayer!!
2. FINANCIAL SUPPORT - It costs money to be able to GO and build this feeding center. Not only does it cost money for construction materials, it costs money for us as individuals: plane tickets, lodging, food... we have AMAZING cooks that travel with us who prepare the most delicious rice you have ever tasted!! Pastor William (he is located in a neighboring batey - where we actually sleep) offers our cooks the use of his kitchen ... but the DR is a poor place & therefore we have to pay for this rice & other things we eat... they cant offer it as a hospitality. Because there are TWO of us going... we have to raise anywhere from $2100-3000. (The price has not been 100% set in stone yet.. it depends upon pricing of plane tickets)
Right now our biggest concern is financial support... We have a lot of people who have agreed to pray for us - and we are SO thankful for those individuals!! Steven & I cannot come up with 3 grand on our own. We need the power of the Lord - and the help of willing partners!! When you give, you aren't just giving us money to take a vacation... you are partners in the gospel!! There are people all over the world who are hungry & who need Jesus. Not everyone has an opportunity to do this... but we do!! We have the opportunity to be Jesus in ACTION! To provide tangible needs to hungry children... to show the love of Jesus by our actions. While our "job" is to build the feeding center... that is not all we do while we are there. We spend the days working like horses - and the evenings building relationships with the Nationals. We have translators that help us communicate to the people- and even when we cant communicate through words - our actions speak loudly. After all, LOVE is an action - it is a choice... not a word.

In addition to letters, Steven & I are "renting" ourselves out!! Faith does require action & we know that sending letters & sitting around waiting on money to come in the mail isnt enough... so we have agreed to provide services in exchange for donations. If you need your yard mowed or your dog washed... your house vacuumed or dusted - we can do it!! My husband is phenomenal and can do ANYTHING from electrical to plumbing... to automotive! We already have a few "renters" & are so excited about the opportunity to not only raise money for our trip, but to serve our brothers & sisters in Christ!
(Oh - and we have received $50 in the mail already from our letters!!!)
