Where's The Fire?

Last night during small group, one of the guys in our group shared his testimony with us. He was saved three weeks ago. I won't go into all of the details of his story, but it left me with soppy eyes and goosebumps. As I watched him share with us how the Lord has CHANGED his life completely, I couldn't help but notice the joyful expressions on his face. This is a guy who was marred with anger. He was angry with God, angry with the world, angry towards his wife - who couldn't seem to find an escape...and there he sat with joy unspeakable all over his face & deep within his soul. He has a crazy fire for the Lord - a fire that cannot be kept silent! It was phenomenal to witness.

As I listened to his story I couldn't help but thinking.... wow.. where's my fire?! I remember that fire... that Joy...what happened to it?! I think far too often we (I included) get comfortable in our relationship with God. We get too comfortable and we stop working at it. Just like we do in our marriages and our relationships with others. We just expect it to happen on its own ... and little by little we lose the fire. We become hardened. The passage in Revelation 2:3-5 came to mind almost instantly as I thought of this: "You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place."

We forsake our love for the Lord for things of this world. We forget. We take for granted the grace that the Lord bestows upon us. We become self sufficient. Don't forget the heights from which you have fallen - don't forget the sins from which the Lord has saved you! Don't forget where you've been! The grace that God gives us... Wow!!

This was such a refreshing reminder for me!! I prayed Psalm 51:12 - that the Lord would restore to me the joy of His salvation... and that He would grant me a willing spirit. To sustain me. I want the fire.
