Miracle at Midnight

Jesus told his disciples to get into the boat one evening when it was nearing dark. The disciples went down to Lake Galilee and got in. Winds began to blow. A storm was coming! Jesus had not yet joined them. Where was he? He told them to get in the boat. He knew a storm was coming! Where was he? I imagine the disciples asked themselves this question over and over again!! Why did Jesus allow them to struggle? Couldn’t he see that they were in pain?? Why did he delay?

God’s timing is always perfect. It’s so hard for us to see that – especially when we’re smack dab in the middle of a monstrous storm – but it is. He is teaching me that more and more each day. HE knows exactly where I am any given moment. He isn’t blind to my struggles. He isn’t blind to my pain. Why is he quiet? Max Lucado says, “Though you hear nothing, he is speaking. Though you see nothing, he is acting. With God there are no accidents. Every incident is intended to bring us closer to Him… because a struggle today will result in music tomorrow. There are certain passions only learned by pain. And there are times when God, knowing that, allows us to endure the pain for the sake of the song.”

Lucado goes on: “What does God do while we are enduring the pain? What does he do while we are in the storm? He prays for us. Jesus wasn’t in the boat because he had gone to the hills to pray (mark 6:46). Jesus prayed… In the right time, God comes. In the right way, he appears. So don’t bail out [of the boat]. Don’t give up. Don’t lay down the oars! He is too wise to forget you, too loving to hurt you. When you can’t see Him, trust him. He is praying a prayer that he himself will answer.”

Just as Jesus showed up that night and calmed the storm - so he will in your life and in mine. We just have to trust Him ... and keep rowing...

God uses our struggles to mold us and shape us into His image. He pursues us with crazy, wild abandon – and will stop at nothing until we are made 100% complete in Him!! Aren’t you glad that we have a God who loves us to the extreme?!
