Anniversary Getaway!

Mine and Steven's 4 year anniversary is Thursday... and today he surprised me with a trip to Niagara Falls for the weekend!! I took off work today and we made our way north! We made it all the way up to Erie and got on I-90 east. A few miles out, we ran into signs saying that the interstate was closed and that we had to detour. We drove through the detour for a little while, noticing all the while that the roads were getting really bad. We'd been debating whether or not to turn around because the snow was getting really thick ... to the point that we were not able to see asphalt on the road - and could hardly see in front of us! Eventually we got to a point where we couldnt even read road signs anymore. At one point we weren't sure which way to go, b ut once we realized where we were going, it was too late to stop (abrupt stops were not even a possibility) - so we kept driving a little bit, debating whether or not that was really the right direction. Apparently God said 'YES!! THAT'S THE RIGHT WAY!!" because when we tried to go up the wrong road, our car slipped all over the place. Like, we literally could not drive another inch. Steven started backing down the road (since forward motion was impossible) in hopes to turn around. In the midst of reversing, our car slipped and drifted off into 3.5 feet of snow. We were stuck!! I got out, thinking I was going to push.. HAH! Finally Steven freed a tire up and I was able to jump in the snow and push to free the other tire! I jumped back in and we started going.... for about 2 seconds until the car plowed right back in to the bank. This time, we were REALLY stuck! He maneuvered for what seemed like forever until a truck of 3 guys stopped and pushed us out! **THANK YOU**

We drove back to where our exit was and learned that all roads going that way were closed. Great. We decided to drive back to Erie and land there for the night. We got a really nice room... that I am sitting in at the moment... and decided to go out and explore the area. The roads are so bad here! Steven really impressed me with his driving abilities! I'm not certain that our tires had traction on the road at all while we were out, yet he managed to manuver us around without problems! There was one time... that we followed a big truck out and ended up getting stuck... AGAIN in the snow. Lovely people stopped to push us out again! At this point we decided it was best to go back to the hotel!

We have had a heck of a day - but it has been one of the most adventurous trips we've been on! Im laughing at how ridiculous this day has been - but I'm so glad I've gotten to spend it with my love! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY STEVEN WAYNE ALEXANDER!!!!

This is a photo of the interstate 20 miles south of Erie... while the roads were still good :/
