If _____, then God.
Esther faced her fear and decided to make the selfless choice: to go before the king and beg for mercy for her people – to risk her life for her people.
Why is it so hard to make the right choice? What are we so scared of?! Esther had NOTHING to lose… she either faced her king, risking her life – or she risked losing it when her people got annihilated. Either way, her life was over, right?! So, what was she so scared of?! The most frequent command in the bible is, “do not be afraid.” So often we approach God, trusting that our fears will never become a reality, asking Him to shield us from what we fear most. When we do this, 2 things happen:
- The enemy continues to threaten us with that fear b/c he KNOWS he will continue to get a reaction from us.
- Our faith becomes conditional. “God, I’ll continue to trust you as long as you don’t let this happen to me.” We should trust God… period.
So what are we so scared of? If ________ happens, then what? What’s your worst fear? Beth Moore shared that her one of her worst fears is that her husband would cease to find her attractive and look elsewhere. That he would leave her for some young, darling woman who her children adored. She said that God posed to her the question, “Ok.. if that happens, then what?” Beth responded, “Well then Lord, I would just die – I would just have a fit! I’d be so angry!” God says, “Ok, and then what?” She responds, “Well Lord, I just don’t know what I’d do!!” God says, “Ok, and then what?” Through this conversation with the Lord – He showed Beth that if that happened - if her fears became reality… then He would remain. That He would pick her up. She may feel like she would die, but she wouldn’t because God would take care of her. He will always be there to pick her up again.
What if I lost someone I could not live without? The truth is that even though it would hurt and even though there would be a period of time where I might feel like I could not live any longer... I could - because God would take care of me.
What if you lost someone? Then what?
We have to trust the Lord and in the fact that if all else fails, HE will remain! If our worst fear is death and we are children of the MOST HIGH, what's there to fear really?!
Remember that if ________ happens, then God.
