More than a mood!

"Satan has a theory that he's banked his entire accuser's career on: Even the strong grow weak. True enough, but this...is also true: Even the weak grow strong if they set their minds to it. "

This semester I signed up for the women's small group - and we are studying Beth Moore's "Esther." In my reading for Tuesday, I read the above sentence. Background: Mordecai refused to bow to Haman day after day (Esther 3) - he stood his ground even when it was tempting to bow... he didn't! And take Joseph - when Potiphar's wife sought after him day after day... Joseph could have just given in, but he didn't!! Beth Moore says this in her study and I agree... that "each temptation is difficult enough to resist the first time it knocks, but keep in mind that for Joseph and Mordecai, the opportunity pounded at the fleshly gates of their souls like battering rams."

Opportunity knocked, yet both Mordecai and Joseph refused. How?!

"Sometimes you and I are simply out of sorts. Hormonal. Feeling carnal. Temptations come and we either cave in because we're in the mood to sin or we quick-draw from a mind-set that is stronger than our mood... We can't just depend on a good mood to get us through.. We need more than a mood. We need a mind-set."

Beth says, "to live some semblance of victory, I've had to learn to be intentional and determined about where I would "set" my mind"

"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God" - Col. 3:1-3
