MUSIC!
I've never really considered myself one to be "inspired" by music. I enjoy listening to it, but I've never really been a fanatic. I don't have every song imaginable memorized, I don't know artists... I hardly know song titles... - but I tell you what... I sit in my office for 8 hours a day and get so absolutely fired up when I fill my ears with songs that lift high the name of Christ!! I don't get a lot of "Jesus" in my day - but my soul leaps when I flood my ears with praise! I just heard two songs on "The Message" - which is on XM Radio - and I am higher than I've been in a long time!! I feel like I could absolutely explode!! I want to stand on my desk and scream and shout!! I've tried to immerse myself in truth today - I've tried to absolutely drown myself in it, begging God to fill me with Himself. Steven and I watched a movie last night (Amazing Grace) and in it a preacher is telling his account of the slave trade... he says, "I don't remember much, but I do know two things:
1. I am a great sinner
2. God is a great savior!"
Those words have been stuck in me all day - the truth in those two statements bring me to my knees!! I've struggled much with choosing God over myself... it's so hard! Gosh it's hard! When our flesh gets in the way - it's so difficult to choose truth! I've been begging God for it... begging him for the ability to choose Him over myself... and so far, God has been so faithful today in helping me choose truth over myself! This isn't to say that tomorrow I won't fall flat on my face again - I've not conquered it by any means, but little by little, He is showing me how to lay myself down. I do it all for you.
Ok... so back to the music - just wanted to share a few songs with you that have screamed at me today!
I think Ian sang both of these at church on Sunday (or if not on Sunday, he has before..) - so thanks Ian for introducing me to them! If you've never heard them... go, listen!
#1 Salvation is Here
"God above all the world in motion
God above all my hopes and fears
I don't care what the world throws at me now
It's gonna be alright'
Cause I know my God saved the day
And I know His word never fails
And I know my God made a way for me
Salvation is here" - Hillsong United
#2 Cry in my Heart
There's a cry in my heart
For your glory to fall
For your presence to fill up my senses
There's a yearning again
A thirst for discipline
A hunger for things that are deeper
Could you take me beyond
Could you carry me through
If I opened my heart
Could I go there with you
For I've been here before
Yet I know there's still more
O Lord, I need to know you
For what do I have
If I don't have you Jesus
What in this life
Could mean anymore
You are my rock
You are my glory
You are the lifter of my head" - Starfield
