Sins and Confession... Part 2

Our small group discussed this topic last night - my previous post is what I read in preparation for our session last night. I treasure our small group times and am blown away by the topics that are presented - things that I've always known to be true... just revlealed in a different light! Last night we talked a lot about sin and confession - and the purpose of confession. It is not some means by which we sneak into the throne room of God to beg for his mercy and forgiveness. If we have been justified, our sins have already been paid for - past, present, and future. We ARE forgiven already! The purpose of our confession is to restore fellowship with our heavenly father. When there is unconfessed sin in our lives, there is broken fellowship with God the Father! I've never really thought about that before. I've always viewed confession as some means of gaining forgiveness... a time to tell God how wretched I am and to beg that he forgive me for stupidity. When He died on the cross... HE FORGAVE ME... past, present, and future!!! The work has already been done! There is nothing I can do to hinder that! I confess to God in order to restore my broken relationship with him! This was a big thing to wrap my head around - but it makes perfect sense! WOW!

  1. Sounds like God is growing you and opening up your eyes to more truth! That is so exciting! Confession and repentance are amazing gifts from God! When we grasp that its not about any "works" we have done, but its all about Jesus's finished work on the cross! No one else could have died. Thats how serious sin is. It took the death of God's own son to attone for our sins. Wow!! The wrath of God was exhaused of Christ the day He went to the cross. Its all about Him and His glory! The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever!! Thats why were here!
