A Nagging Thirst

It is so good to be in God's word!! My quiet times lately have been very lax due to my crazy schedule! (A lot of it is due to the fact that I really don't care about making time to do them - which is terrible, I realize). So yesterday I finally decided that enough is enough and I just sat down with the Lord and asked him to forgive me!! It's amazing how God puts within us a thirst for Him! My quiet time sort of dealt with that same concept!

Often times we feel dissatisfied with life and even seem to long for more. I know I do that a lot! A lot of people even grasp the philosophy that this life is all that there is, so grab on and enjoy! These people are sadly mistaken! This life is not all there is! That in itself is such a hard concept to grasp! It's very difficult for us to think about eternity and how long it is and how important it is for us to live for Christ during our time on earth. God makes it very clear in His word that this life is not all there is - this earth is simply a tent... a temporary dwelling place!

For the lost, this life is as good as it gets, so I guess I get their philosophy of "eat drink and be merry!" because when they die they will be sentenced to eternal damnation. They will spend their eternity in absolute torment!!

But for Christians- those of us who have an intimate relationship with Christ - there will be so much more!! Check out this passage in Revelation 21:1-7:

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son."

Wow! Can you imagine?! Being in the presence of God almighty - experiencing "life" at it's fullest!! Whenever we feel dissatisfied with life and long for more, we are right in our feelings!! Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, "He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from the beginning to end."
God instills in us a desire for eternity!! He has planted within us a divine restlessness, a longing to be at home with him forever more!! We are simply passing through on our way to an eternal home that beckons us and promises to be more glorious! Instead of allowing my discontent to drive me to seek more on this earth, it should drive me to seek more of God! Jesus said in Revelation 7:16 that those who hunger and thirst for His righteousness will be blessedly filled!!
