What are we holding back?

There are times in our lives when we don't feel close to God. There are times when we feel like complete shmucks - we can't seem to get anything right. For me, it seems that when I've hit my low, God always seems to rescue me. God's amazing power and saving grace never ceases to amaze me. When things seem to crumble around me - He always stands and never moves. So why do we fail over and over again? Sin and disobedience, of course... but What's the key to remaining in an intimate love relationship with Jesus? Henry Blackaby says this: "Daily obedience to God, regardless of what God is asking or promising, is a key to an intimate relationship with God. Since He is God, the only response that is worthy of Him is, "YES LORD!" To fail to respond in obedience is to fail to experience God's eternal best for our lives."

We don't experience God's best for our lives because we are not obedient. When Christ calls us to do something, he wants us to obey immediately!! We believe God, right? We believe that what he says is what's best for our lives, right? Why don't we act that way? Why do we constantly think that we know more than God or that we can handle a situation better than He can? WE CAN'T!!

God tells us in Isaiah that:

"My thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD.

As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts."

So why do we think we know more than Him!?

Jesus said to his disciples, "If you love me you will obey what I command." (John 14)

What does it mean to really love God? Henry Blackaby puts it this way: "Love involves a release of one's life unconditionally to Him, for Him alone." Loving God is giving yourself up to God, to offer your WHOLE self to Him - no matter what, for HIS purposes and His glory.
