"Counting the Costs"

I did a lot of reading today - something I've not done in a while. I'm still reading Mitchell Tolle's "Like a Tree" (I told you I haven't had a lot of time to read! I've been reading this book far too long!) As I've said before, this book is subtitled "A radical approach to living the good life." It talks a lot about success - what it is - and how to find it. Tolle defines success as "Blessedness" True success is blessedness: abundant living. Living life as Jesus came to give it: Abundantly. The abundant life Jesus speaks of everything life includes!!

So back to the title of my post: Counting the Costs. A blessed life has a price. It's not something you can stumble into - you have to be intentional to find "true success." As Tolle says, "You can't stay where you are and go anywhere." John Maxwell says that it's kind of like climbing a ladder - you can't do it with your hands full. You have to lay something down in order to go up... and the first step to going anywhere is to leave!! Leaving is "the act of separating from some things and laying down some other things. It is leaving some people, place, habits, beliefs, values, attitudes, or thoughts behind - forever... It is putting off the unnecessary so that you can focus on the race and not be distracted by the load." (Tolle)

Leaving is the first step - the very act that notifies heaven of your desire and intent! It's how you begin!

"If you want true success...
  • You'll have to abandon the status quo
  • Put aside the opinions of friends
  • resist the pressure of popular thinking
  • Reject the influence of institutions
  • Stop believing what others are believing
  • stop doing what everyone else is doing
  • if you want the promise, you have to pay the price." (Tolle)

As I continue to think about God's will for my life, I know that he wants more from me! I know that he wants my life to be lived abundantly - and though I'm not sure what that means - I know that the life I'm currently living is not it! I have to lay something down - leave something behind... I have to give something up. Lord, search my heart!!!!
