God Speaks to His People
Does God still speak to his people, as He did in the Bible? Yes - and no - He still speaks to His people, yes... he has not changed, but he does it differently. In the Old Testament, He spoke through prophets at various times and in various ways. In the New Testament, He spoke through his son - Jesus. Today, He speaks to us through the Holy Spirit. "When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. he will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. he will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you." - John 16:13-14
So why do we have trouble hearing Him? He said again in John 14:26 that "The counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said." Why can't I hear him all the time? Henry Blackaby says, "Sin has so affected us that you and I cannot understand God's truth unless the Holy Spirit reveals it."
God communicates with each and every person uniquely. So, God will not speak to me in the same manner he speaks to my husband. In order for me to absolutely KNOW when God is speaking... I have to depend on GOD ALONE! My relationship with him is of utmost importance! And that's where God met me today! My relationship with Him is the key to knowing God's voice and hearing when God speaks. An intimate relationship is different from an ordinary one! I have to devote myself and my time to it! I cannot experience an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ if I only spend 10-15 minutes here and there with him. I have to devote more than that! My marriage wouldn't work if i only spend a few minutes a day with Steven. The same goes with my relationship with Christ! I have to give everything I have to Him! I have to be intimate with Jesus in order to hear the Holy Spirit speak to me.. If I don't know what his voice sounds like, how will I ever hear?? The only way to know his voice is to know Him. The only way to know Him is to spend time with him, to devote my entire self to Him. I have to be intentional about seeking God!
"God, I pray that i will grow in my relationship with you so much that when you speak, I will immediately hear and respond." - H.B.
