The Only Begotten Son
As I continue my journey through 3:16, God continually reminds me about how awesome he is, and how wicked I am! Who would have thought that verse had so many implications! It's John 3:16, a verse that every christian (and even nonchristian) child memorizes in Sunday school. Everyone knows that verse - but do they really??
"For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son, for whosoever believes in him shall not parish but have eternal life!"
How exhilerating! Eternal life, even for wicked o me? The bible tells us:
"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure." (Jeremiah 17:9)
"For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. (Mark 7:21-22)
"There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God." (Romans 3:10-11)
Max Lucado says, "This generation is oddly silent about sin...we rape the earth, squander nonrenewable resources, and let 24,000 people die daily from hunger or hunger-related causes."
So how can we have this everlasting life? Matt 5:8 tells us that only those who are pure in heart will see the face of God!! What hope do we even have?! 2 Cor. 5:21 gives us that answer: "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
Jesus paid it all!! He took on my sin disease! He died for ME! I did nothing to deserve it, but out of his unconditional love for me, HE DID! I write on this all the time, but I just don't think we get it. I don't think I get it... what that means for me - what it means to have eternal life with my Savior. I think if I truly got it... my life would look different...
