In the beginning..

I’ve decided to start at Genesis 1 and read the bible through!! Including the intro pages and notes listed in my Bible! I want to know God – truly KNOW him!! Where it all began, human history, family, civilization, and salvation! There is a lot that I do know about people of the Bible, who they were, what they did, how their choices impacted the world.... but there is a lot that I don't know. So my quest is not to have the Bible read in a year... but to make myself more knowledgeable of the history! (This is huge for me, b/c I hate history!!) So.. I began in Gen 1:

God created this world because he desires a relationship with me!! Not because he has to have me, but because he WANTS to have me! He set me apart to be his so that I could worship him and dwell with him for all eternity!!

“In the beginning…” (Gen.1:1) – what a profound statement! My Bible commentary says, “beginnings stir up hope and imaginative visions for the future.” Hope! Who would have ever thought sinners, such as I, would have HOPE?! Everything starts here in Genesis! God’s purpose and plan for his creation, we see the nature of God, the value of human life, and the tragedy of sin. Our fellowship with God, once perfect – gets broken. What hope is left after that? Oh how the pages of this master plan will soon unfold just that – God’s master plan! There is hope for us! God had a plan from the beginning, and no matter how dark this world may seem – He knows where we are and exactly what we need!

So, in Gen. 1:1 God created the heavens and the earth! What a challenging concept to grasp. The commentary in my bible goes on to say, as I’ve said, that God didn’t need to create the earth – he chose to do it! “God is love, and love is best expressed toward something or someone else – so God created the world and people as an expression of his love.” I’m valuable to God! I mean something to him! I matter!!I only got as far as Gen. 1:1 in my quiet time today – time didn’t really allow much more digging for me. I just sat and meditated on these words and what they would soon mean for me! I plan to read on later in the day! As I look at the Bible in a totally different view, I become more and more attracted to the words on every page! What an awesome feeling!
