To not be a Reed
“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever- do not abandon the works of your hands.” – Ps. 138:8
My quiet time today was about John the Baptist’s faith (from Jesus the One and Only, by Beth Moore)… when he was in prison, he sent two of his disciples ask Jesus if he was indeed, the Messiah. John the Baptist knew Jesus was the One when he saw him at the Jordan. As he heard about all the miracles Jesus was performing for others, perhaps he was curious as to where his miracle was. Why was he sitting in prison?? John knew with his head that Jesus was the Messiah, but maybe he was having heart trouble. I’ve witnessed this in my own life… I’ve seen the marvelous power of God’s mighty hand. I’ve seen God perform divine miracles in my life, yet at times my faith seems shaken because there are times that I don’t feel God moving at all… Sort of like John…
John was not “a reed swayed by the wind.” He was a man of faith! He knew that Jesus was the Messiah… but perhaps his emotions were starting to override what his mind knew to be true. God had a divine plan for John’s life – and John probably knew that… but didn’t completely know the means in which Christ planned to accomplish it.
God’s way, whether we understand it or not… is always the right one!
So… God does have a plan for my life…and I just prayed that he would not let me be a reed, but rather a person of absolute conviction, that He would use me for His Kingdom and that God would reveal himself to me!!
